Clarina Nichols
Clarina Nichols, Associate Editor of the Quindaro Chindowan abolitionist newspaper, was a visionary for social reform. A highly educated woman, Nichols attended the elite Timothy Cressy Select School, in Townshend, Vermont and moved to Quindaro, Kansas Territory because that is where she felt she could have the biggest impact on what she viewed as social injustices. Using various platforms, Nichols adamantly: fought to abolish slavery, advocated for women’s rights, and advocated for public education. Nichols also frequently expressed her deep appreciation for the beauties she saw in the natural world.
